Biography

I am an award-winning translator working from Norwegian and Spanish into English. I also have more than 20 years’ experience as a commercial editor, primarily in the financial sector.

Born in London, I studied French at the University of Manchester in the mid-eighties. In the early nineties, I moved to Mexico City, where I taught myself Spanish and established myself as a translator, with a specialisation in the financial sector and a sideline in telenovelas.

After returning to London in 2000, I side-stepped into editing, working for a number of leading City companies as an equity research editor. I continued to use my Spanish in my daily work, as well as producing subtitles for a number of Mexican documentaries in my spare time.

In 2009, a chance trip to Norway prompted me to take up Norwegian. In 2014, I won a John Dryden Prize for my translation of an excerpt from a novella by Hans Herbjørnsrud. Later that year, I moved to rural Norway, where I set up as a freelance translator, producing sample translations for Norwegian publishers and, eventually, full fiction and non-fiction books for publishers in the English-speaking world. I also write reader’s reports for publishers interested in titles written in Norwegian or Spanish, and offer a certified translation service.
